Spotify and Instagram are teaming up to develop an MSN-like feature for sharing songs in real time
Streaming apps like Apple Music and Spotify already offer some sort of integration with Instagram, allowing users to easily share the song they're listening to in a post or Story. However, Meta and Spotify have been developing an MSN-like feature that would allow Instagram users to see the music they're listening to in real time.
Share Spotify Songs on Instagram in Real Time
Essentially, the feature will allow users to connect their Instagram account to Spotify. The streaming platform will then automatically create a new note with the song playing on the user’s Spotify. Other users will be able to see these notes when they open the DM tab or visit the user’s profile.
App developer and researcher Alessandro Paluzzi discovered the new “Share from Spotify” feature. A message explains to users that they can “continuously share what they’re listening to” and can also “stop sharing at any time.” The feature isn’t available to users yet, but everything suggests it’s coming soon.
It's worth noting that Instagram users can now share songs in a note, but you'll have to do it manually for each song you want to share.
When you first read about this new feature, you might immediately think of the old Microsoft Messenger (commonly known as MSN), which also had a feature that allowed you to show your friends what song you were listening to at the time. The idea of bringing this feature back sounds pretty cool.
Unfortunately, it looks like Apple Music users will be left behind, at least for now. Hopefully, Apple will develop a similar feature in the future.
